Public awareness of the human life value, the importance of full and harmonious development of every person, its physical, moral and spiritual abilities and the need to create conditions for the fulfillment of human potential require an objective and timely identification of key strategic directions and priorities of social development of Ukraine from science and executive authorities.

Social priorities should be identified in all areas of modern transforma-tions, including innovation and investment processes, structural and institutional changes, modern policy of regional development.

While studying this academic discipline the students are given the following tasks: studying the theory of social development; familiarization with modern trends and priorities of social development, social and humanitarian areas of Ukraine′s policy; obtaining a holistic view of domestic and foreign research in social processes; formation of professional competences in the analysis of social problems and development of solutions.

The goal of teaching the academic discipline "Social Development" is to develop knowledge and skills in theoretical and practical foundations of social development at the regional and state level, the current state of social policy and social protection.

To achieve the goal the following tasks are set:

mastering basic principles of social development and an ability to determine social development priorities using instruments of state regulation and adhering the social justice;

acquiring skills of independent analysis to evaluate the system of social and class relations rationally and critically, to effectively use the tools of social interaction regulation;

creating an ability to determine the factors of human development and to analyze the basic social indicators;

creating competence for planning, development, measuring the effective- ness of social development policy to improve the level and quality of life;

learning to use national consciousness advantages and to select specific means and tools for proper implementation of humanitarian policies;

forming an ability to identify the optimal ways and directions of social structures organizational development by creating the appropriate market legislation;

implementing social diagnosis through the use of socio-economic indicators of social development and to analyze the income level stratification of population;

forming social monitoring exercise to diagnose social development and formation of preconditions of demographic development.

The object of the academic discipline is the socio-cultural and humanitarian processes and phenomena in the state and regions social sphere.

The subject of the academic discipline is learning the main and applied principles of implementing the system of laws and rules that regulate functioning of the organizational-administrative mechanism of social develop-ment.

Professional competences that students acquire while studying the academic discipline:

effective mechanism of socio-oriented state governance used at the country and regions’ level:

an ability to understand the social development peculiarities and to define social development priorities using state regulation instruments adhering social justice;

an ability to analyse, evaluate the socio-class relation system rationally and critically. Formation of skills to use the tools of effective regulation of social interaction;

an ability to identify factors that affect the human development and to analyze main social indicators;

an ability to ground, plan and evaluate the effectiveness of state policy of social development and improve the level and quality of life;

an ability to use advantages of national consciousness and chose the specific means and instruments for proper implementation of humanitarian policy;

an ability to identify the optimal ways and directions of the organizational development of social structures by creating the appropriate legislation.

an ability to carry out the social diagnosis through the use of socio-economic indicators of social development. An ability to analyse the processes of the income level stratification of the population;

an ability to carry out social monitoring to examine social development and formation of preconditions for demographic development.
