The academic discipline "History and Culture of Ukraine" is a compulsory discipline for foreign citizens who have expressed their intention to obtain higher education in Ukraine in English. The discipline is awarded of foreign citizens of general information about Ukraine: territory, political system, symbols of Ukrainian statehood, big cities, culture, traditions, customs, famous Ukrainians in the process of studying English. The program is based on a communicative-cognitive approach to foreign language learning, which involves the gradual formation of knowledge and development of all components of foreign language communicative and intercultural competencies, activation of language skills in social and educational spheres of communication.
