Relevance. The reverse side of scientific and technological, social, and economic progress is the increased risk of occurrence and negative impact of danger on human life and the environment. That is why improving safety is one of the most pressing challenges today. It is impossible to create absolute safety, but to minimize the likelihood of danger - a feasible but challenging task, because it requires people, above all, to rethink and re-evaluate the experience and knowledge of modern science, in other words, a radical change in worldview human. To achieve this goal, create new areas of knowledge that combine a variety of current and past human experiences. One example of such a complex combination of knowledge is the training course "Life Safety and Labour Protection", which is based on a systematic approach to the analysis and solution of human safety issues.

The purpose of the training course is: to study the general patterns of occurrence and development of hazards; analyse the nature and consequences of the impact of risks on human life and health; formation of necessary skills and abilities for the prevention and elimination of dangers.

The object of the training course is human activity.

The subject of the training course is dangers, their impact on humans and the environment, protection from them.

As a result of studying the training course "Life Safety and Labour Protection" the student must master the following essential general cultural and professional competencies:

general cultural competencies: safety culture; knowledge of modern problems and main tasks of life safety; ability to assess the environment in terms of personal safety, the safety of the team, and society, to monitor dangerous situations and justify the main approaches and means of preserving the life, health and protection of workers in the face of emergencies; the ability to make security decisions within their authority;

professional competencies: the ability to navigate the principal regulations in the field of safety and labour protection; ability to navigate the basic methods and systems of safety and labour protection, reasonably choose known devices, systems and methods of protection of humans and the environment from hazards; ability to identify hazardous environmental factors and find ways to prevent their impact; ability to analyse the mechanisms of the effects of dangers on human, to determine the nature of the interaction of the human body with the dangers of the environment.

The study of training course also involves the formation of the student's communication skills, such as the production of tasks to create safe living conditions. Besides, the student must master a level of autonomy and responsibility that implies independence in learning and professional activities, as well as responsibility for their results.
