🧠 ENGLISH FOR PSYCHOLOGY

Semester 1 | Discover Psychology Through English

Welcome to the first semester of English for Psychology — a journey into the fascinating world of the human mind, brain and behaviour.

This semester, English becomes more than just a language to study. It becomes a tool for understanding psychology, discussing scientific ideas and developing professional communication skills.

Throughout the course, you will explore key psychological concepts, learn essential professional vocabulary, analyse scientific information and develop your ability to communicate about psychology in English.

🔴 TOPIC 1. WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGY?

Explore the science of the human mind and behaviour.

You will discover the main approaches to psychology — cognitive, behavioural, humanistic and psychoanalytic — and explore the basic methods used in psychological research: experiments, observation and surveys.

🟡 TOPIC 2. THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

Discover the biological foundations of human behaviour.

Learn about the structure and functions of the brain and spinal cord, explore the role of neurons and synapses, and understand how nerve impulses are transmitted throughout the nervous system.

🔵 TOPIC 3. SENSORY SYSTEMS & SENSE ORGANS

How do we see, hear, touch, taste and smell the world?

Explore the biological structure of the five senses and investigate the psychophysiology of perception, including adaptation, sensory thresholds and sensory integration.

🟣 TOPIC 4. THE HUMAN BRAIN

The most complex organ in the human body.

Discover the functional specialisation of the brain's major lobes — frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal — and explore their connection with language, memory and emotions.

🟢 TOPIC 5. MEMORY

How does the human mind remember?

Explore different types of memory, including sensory, short-term, long-term and procedural memory, and examine the cognitive processes involved in encoding, storage and retrieval.
